Fresh and pure fish oils of the highest quality

Wild-caught oily fish such as cod, herring, mackerel, or Pangasius, whose flesh contains little fat, are a very poor source of unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids like EPA and DHA and vitamin D. That's why fish oil, low in fat, is ideal for anyone who doesn't eat enough fish. Omega-3 is a very important building block – 20% of the fat in our brain is made up of DHA.

Health claims authorized under EU Regulation No. 432/2012, 536/2013 and Commission Regulation (EU) 1924/2006:

DHA contributes to the normal function of the brain / DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision / EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart (beneficial effect achieved with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA) / EPA and DHA contribute to the maintenance of normal blood triglyceride levels / EPA and DHA contribute to the maintenance of normal blood pressure

Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption/utilization of calcium and phosphorus / Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal blood calcium levels / Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones / Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function / Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal teeth / Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system / Vitamin D plays a role in the process of cell division

Sustainable fishing – MSC certification

Protecting food sources is essential for the sustainability of fish stocks, coastal communities, and local economies. That's why products made from whole fillets require this certification, not just products made from part of the fish. This helps utilize the entire catch and prevents fish meat from going to waste. Arctic Blue fish oils are made exclusively from cod fillet trimmings. A large share of oils on the market are made from lower-value species that would otherwise be considered by-catch or waste. Such practices threaten fish stocks and marine ecosystems, and entire schools of small fish like sardines or anchovies are removed, disrupting the food chain of many marine animals and seabirds.

Highest purity with respect for nature

Pure Arctic fish oil is made from fresh cod fillet trimmings from wild Arctic cod, caught in the Barents Sea between Norway, Spitsbergen, and northern Russia. It's among the cleanest waters in the world, not exposed to as many pollutants as fish from waters closer to the Pacific between Asia and southern America, or fish farmed in ponds. Pure Arctic fish oil is tested for the presence of heavy metals, staying well below the legal limits currently required by European legislation, making it extremely pure fish oil suitable even for young children and pregnant women.

Pure Arctic fish oil is manufactured according to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), the strictest quality assurance system for supplements that exists. Extremely detailed records are kept of purity and parameters at every stage of production. Pure Arctic Fish Oil never shows detectable cadmium above 0.5 ppb (parts per billion), even though European legislation allows levels up to 10x higher than that.

Pure Arctic fish oil is also regularly tested for the presence of dioxins and furans. This thorough testing is carried out by renowned international laboratories using methodology recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). Pure Arctic Fish Oil never shows detectable PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) during testing, staying below a value of 0.5 ppt, while the Norwegian legal limit for PCBs is 3 ppt.

Fresh oil from wild-caught fish

Freshness goes hand in hand with the purity of the oil itself. It reflects the delicate balance of the three fatty acids. Freshness can be affected by improper storage or oxidation. Freshness can be evaluated using the Total Oxidation Value (TOTOX value). The lower the number, the fresher the oil and the more effective and higher-quality the product. Fresh oil oxidizes more slowly, meaning the TOTOX value can increase before the oil goes rancid.

There is no internationally binding standard for evaluating oxidation and freshness. The European standard sets the TOTOX limit at 26. If the measured value is unusually low or too old, safety and quality cannot be reliably guaranteed. That's why we test the TOTOX value in every batch of oil we deliver, and only oil with a TOTOX value between 0 and 0.5 passes — meaning we can guarantee our oil is never older than 1–2 years and is genuinely fresh from freshly caught fish. Arctic Blue Oil & Algae Oil regularly reaches a freshness value of 5, with a maximum deviation of 5–10.

Some brands often heavily flavor and mask the true taste of their fish oil products, which prevents the actual quality of the product from being detected. A high-quality fish oil is naturally always made from high-quality raw materials, and its freshness genuinely relies on an honest and serious approach to production, without artificial flavors added to disguise the raw taste of poor-quality fish oil. It's easy to blend high-quality oil into yogurt, smoothies, or your favorite drink without noticing any fishy aftertaste.

Due to the high content of the three fatty acids used, we use a sophisticated combination of antioxidants. Our extracts contain natural tocopherol (vitamin E), rosemary extract, and ascorbyl palmitate (a natural derivative of vitamin C). Natural aroma is also used, which additionally protects against oxidation and gives our fish oil a pleasant, mild flavor, so you'll be happy to add it to your daily yogurt, smoothie, or favorite drink without any fishy aftertaste.

What is the ideal ratio between DHA and EPA?

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) are similarly important. The difference is only that DHA is more associated with the body's structural tissues, while EPA is linked to oxidative stress. The body is also capable of converting DHA into EPA if needed (though not the reverse). With sufficient DHA intake, the body can regulate EPA on its own. This is especially important for the brain, heart, and nervous system..

In its original and natural form

Pure Arctic MSC fish oil exists only in its natural form, the so-called triglyceride form. This is exactly how it occurs in all fish species. This is how nature designed it, and it's the most stable form of fat. That's why we never use ethyl esters, an unnatural form of fat that has reduced absorption and a higher risk of oxidation and an unpleasant taste in fish oil products.

The triglyceride form is also more natural, sourced, and better absorbed by the body. It's also more environmentally friendly, since the fish it's derived from is mostly used for human consumption rather than being caught solely for oil extraction, or farmed in an unnatural, industrial way.

We support sustainability and balance

One of our core principles is that we never use krill oil or anchovies as a source of omega-3 fatty acids. This is important, because krill oil is one of the most concentrated sources of omega-3 fatty acids, but commercial krill harvesting significantly disrupts the marine food chain and ecosystem near Antarctica. Anchovies are also a key food source that whales, seabirds, and other marine species depend on to survive.

Most of our fish oil products are packaged in glass with minimal plastic use (or biodegradable/eco plastic components where used). Our powdered fish collagen products are packaged in bags and jars made from sugarcane bioplastic, produced from renewable resources.

Arctic fish oils are sourced from wild-caught cod in the Norwegian, Barents, and Bering Seas. Thanks to minimal oxidation, they're completely free of the typical fishy taste and smell. They come from sustainable fisheries with prestigious MSC certification.

The Arctic Blue® brand was founded by Ludo van de Wiel, an experienced expert and recognized specialist in fish oils, and a graduate of Wageningen University. His goal was to create a super-premium fish oil from fish living in the world's cleanest waters — with a mild, pleasant taste and smell, combined with an outstanding nutritional profile.

In addition to fish and algae oils, Arctic Blue® offers a true market rarity: a high-omega-3 jelly made from MSC-certified Norwegian cod. This product received the prestigious 2024 Nutra Awards for Best Sustainability Initiative.
